2018 was a year of learning and acquiring knowledge in design, prompting me to land my first internship in Chicago for a sports data company called STATS, LLC. The real-world experience taught me how to approach designing for true user experiences, while also humbling me in accessibility, inclusive design, and usability testing on different people. I also learned to prioritize myself through meditation and work, prompting me to launch Callio (previously Protomind), my own design studio, at the end of the year, and learning about the stock market in order to invest and manage my financial future.
Below I listed the goals I achieved and missed, as well as the lessons learned throughout the year.
Launched protomind and established a social media presence
Designed the UGA Club Lacrosse team website and created graphics for their schedule, roster, and other media.
Worked with the startups CellStore and Repair Store POS on redesigning their software’s interface, as well as helping them set up their landing page on their new website.
Lost a few potential clients due to pricing higher.
Designed the UI for the mobile app, Amuze. The project consisted of research, wireframing, flow sketches, and prototyping.
Secured an internship at IHS Markit for Summer of 2019.
Charge what you value yourself at.
Follow the long-term path, focusing on higher quality clients, as opposed to multiple lower project clients.
Use spreadsheets to keep track of income, work expenses, clients/projects, and capital gains.
Never risk more than you’re willing to lose.
I lost about 5-10 lbs. of weight and gained muscle and strength through weightlifting.
Started working out in the morning as opposed to after class.
Finished 34 books focusing on design, business, self-help, and economics.
Went to Australia, Chicago, Colorado, Mexico, St. Simon’s Island, and Destin.
Went to Lollapalooza, Music Midtown, EDC Orlando, and Frat Beach.
Started painting and drawing more.
Started playing the piano.
Engage in creative expression, business risk, and financial stability.
Meditate (breathing and/or writing) to release thoughts and align yourself spiritually.
Aim to read, write, and create more.
Design your life by balancing goal planning, health optimization, and spontaneity.
